Nieves Hearing Delayed Again

A court hearing in Cole County regarding a request for an order of protection against District 98 State Representative Brian Nieves was delayed for the second time in as many months Thursday afternoon. Judge Jon Beetem did not immediately set a new court date, according to reports. The order was requested by Shawn Bell, a political consultant who said he was physically attacked by Nieves in Washington on Aug. 4.


Man Enters Stranger's Home, Drinks Milk, Leaves

A Franklin County man was arrested early Thursday morning in Washington after he entered a home on Coulter Court, drank milk from the fridge, then left when confronted by the home's resident, police said. Wade Horina, 19, was charged with 1st Degree Burglary and a misdemeanor charge of stealing.


Franklin County's 911 Tax Going Up

Users of landline telephones in Franklin County will pay a few more cents per month in 2011. County Commissioners voted Wednesday to increase the E-911 tax by three cents to 15 cents per month, effective Jan. 1, 2011. That is the highest amount the county can tax, according to the commission.


AmerenUE Changing Name, Bill Format

Utility company AmerenUE will soon go by the name Ameren Missouri. Ameren announced Wednesday it will change its name, effective October 1. Letters detailing the change were expected to be delivered to customers' mailboxes Wednesday.
Ameren also announced changes to the appearance of its bills. The new format will be clearer for customers to read, the company said.
AmerenUE serves over 1.2 million electric and natural gas customers in eastern and central Missouri.


Progress Parkway Opens At Route 50

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced the opening of the new Progress Parkway at Route 50 intersection in Union Wednesday morning. The opening of the intersection should reduce traffic congestion on Prairie Dell Road at Rte. 50, MoDOT said.
MoDOT, and contractor Millstone Bangert, Inc., also activated new traffic signals at Rte. 50 and Prairie Dell. All of the work is part of the widening of Rte. 50 to four lanes between Hwy 47 South and a point just east of Progress Parkway. The widening project should be completed in October.
