Gladys Engemann
Gladys E. Engemann, 91 , of Washington, passed away on May 6, 2022. Gladys, daughter of the late Oscar Nolting and Laura nee Ellermann, was born on May 29, 1930 in Washington. She received her education from Washington High School. On October 2, 1948, she was united in marriage to Philip Engemann at St. Ignatius Church in Concord Hill. Gladys was an avid local history buff and was very interested in family ancestry. She was a member of both the Washington and Franklin County Historical Societies. She liked to collect antiques, and could tell you the history of each piece that she owned. In addition to that, she was an excellent cook and baker. Many fond memories are shared by her children and grandchildren of the wonderful meals and desserts that she prepared for them. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Philip Engemann and brother, Kenneth Nolting. Among her survivors are four children, Kathleen Rohe and husband Lester of Villa Ridge, Larry Engemann and wife Annette of Washington, Rich Engemann of Washington, and Barbara Gildehaus and husband Jay Mittler of Washington; siblings, Shirley Osthoff of Augusta, Ruth Fuhr of Augusta, Charles Nolting and wife Linda of Washington, and Laverne Oberlag and husband Dennis of Auxvasse; four grandchildren, Philip Gildehaus and wife Jodi, Andy Gildehaus and wife Mary, Joanne Rohe-Nichols and husband Justin, and Jordan Krafft; six great-grandchildren, Kaden Straatmann, Ezra Straatmann, Olive Gildehaus, Willow Nichols, Aubrey Krafft, and Frank Gildehaus; in-laws, Judy Nolting of Austin, TX, Virginia Szczesny of Natrona Heights, PA, Deloris Engemann of St. Louis, and Ruth Engemann of Washington; other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022 from 5-8 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Miller Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at St. Francis Borgia Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Washington Historical Society or the National Kidney Foundation.
