Missouri Department of Conservation to Host Open Houses Throughout the State

The Missouri Department of Conservation is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.  The Conservation Department was founded back in 1937 by Missourians looking to fix the state’s decimated fish, forest, and wildlife populations.  At the time it was the nation’s first apolitical conservation agency.  To keep with its tradition of citizen based conservation, the department will be hosting open houses throughout the state from August through October.  The closest open house will be held at the Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center in Kirkwood on September 7th.  Attendees are encouraged to give feedback on Missouri Department of Conservation regulations, infrastructure, strategic priorities, and local conservation issues.  No registration is required to attend these open houses.  In addition to the open houses, the Missouri Department of Conservation will also be at the Washington Town and Country Fair from August 2nd through 6th to gather public feedback on conservation issues.  For more information on these types of events call Michele Baumer at 573-522-4115, extension 3350.
