Sullivan Police Seeking Suspect Following Police Chase

Sullivan police are searching for a 22-year old St. Clair man following a wild police chase.  The incident occurred on Wednesday when Sullivan police on patrol at the Wal-Mart on Pine Ridge Drive noticed a man who had several outstanding warrants for his arrest.  The man fled the store and when officers returned to their vehicles they spotted a blue Chevrolet Cobalt in the parking lot which was registered to the same man.  The officers followed the vehicle out of the parking lot and initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of a nearby Steak and Shake.  The woman driving the vehicle stepped out. A man then slid into the driver’s seat and sped off.  Police pursued the vehicle onto the South Service Road.  When the vehicle reached the intersection of Highway 185 South it struck the trailer of a big rig.  In an attempt to flee the man then struck the truck a second time.  He also struck a patrol car and nearly hit a pursuing officer.  An officer was able to shoot out one of the tires of the vehicle.  The Cobalt was able to get away and was later found abandoned just outside the city limits with no sign of the suspect.  Charges are being sought against the man for Second Degree Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
