28th Annual New Haven Balloon Glow, Race, and Festival Being Held this Weekend

One of the biggest events for the City of New Haven is taking place this weekend.  The 28th annual New Haven Balloon Glow, Race, and Festival will be taking place this Friday and Saturday in the New Haven City Park.  Activities begin with the Balloon Glow from 6:30 to 8:30 pm tonight.  This will be followed by the parade and festival beginning at 2 pm on Saturday.  The Balloon Race will then take place from 3 to 5 pm.  The race will once again be a “Hare and Hound” format.  The ”hare” balloon will take off ahead of the pack.  It will be followed by 20 “hound” balloons in pursuit of it.  The “hound” balloon which drops its bean bag closest to the “hare” balloon’s landing site will be declared the winner.  Food and refreshments will be available for purchase during the events and admission is free.  Attendees are reminded Park Drive will be closed for the weekend’s events.  Spectators are encouraged to park on Lion’s Drive or in the New Haven High School and Municipal Swimming Pool parking lots.
