Deer Hunters Encouraged to Participate in Share the Harvest Program

The Missouri Department of Conservation and the Conservation Federation of Missouri are once again encouraging deer hunters throughout the Show-Me State to participate in the Share the Harvest program.  Share the Harvest coordinates the efforts of thousands of deer hunters, participating meat processors, local supporting organizations, and a handful of statewide sponsors to feed hungry Missourians.  Processing fees are largely covered by the sponsors which include Shelter Insurance, Bass Pro Shops, and the Missouri Food Banks Association.  Hunters looking to participate in the Share the Harvest program are advised to contact their individual processors to determine what funds are available.  Last year nearly 4,300 Missouri deer hunters donated over 198,000 pounds of venison to the program.  Since Share the Harvest began in 1992, more than 3.6-million pounds of venison have been donated to feed hungry Missourians.  For more information on the program and participating processors call the Missouri Department of Conservation at 573-751-4115.
