St. Clair Man Charged Following Attempted Burglary

A St. Clair man is facing several charges following an incident at Hoffman’s Towing Lot in St. Clair.  The incident occurred on Thursday, January 25th at just after 11:30 pm.  St. Clair Police responded to the property for a report of a theft in progress.  The business surveillance system had been triggered by an intruder inside the fenced area.  When officers arrived at the scene they found a portion of the fence had been cut.  They were able to locate a backpack, a pry bar, and bolt cutters near the fence.  A search of the area was conducted and officers were able to locate the suspect, 35-year old Earl Edward McGee of St. Clair hiding inside a pickup truck inside the fenced in area.  McGee admitted to police to using the bolt cutters to cut through the fence and steal anything of value on the property.  He has since been charged with possession of burglary tools, second degree property damage, trespassing, and stealing.  Bond for McGee has been set at $20,000.
