Murder in Union

A Union man is facing a murder charge in the death of a two year old child.  23-year old Austin T. Stonebarger is being held in the Franklin County jail on a cash bond of five hundred thousand dollars.

Police were called to a home on Henry Drive early Saturday morning for the report of a unconscious two year old boy.  Officers attempted CPR and an ambulance transported the child to Mercy in Washington where he was pronounced dead.

Officers noticed the boy had several bruises.  The child had been left with Stonebarger for the majority of the day.  During questioning, Stonebarger gave inconsistent stories.  He eventually admitted to pushing the child, causing him to strike his head.  He also admitted to disciplining the child the day before allegedly causing the bruising.

Stonebarger allegedly told police he had been using Methamphetamine the last couple of days.

Stonebarger is the Mother's boyfriend.  She had left her son with Stonebarger for the day.
