Two Franklin County Men Arrested Following Chase and Water Rescue

Two Franklin County men with active warrants have been arrested following a police chase and water rescue.  The incident occurred just after midnight on Tuesday morning.  A Franklin County Sheriff Deputy noticed a Ford Ranger pickup truck driving on the St. Clair overpass toward the North Service Road with both tail lights out.  The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver didn’t stop.  The truck turned on to Highway WW and then headed towards the Reiker’s Ford River Access.  The truck drove into the Bourbeuse River with the driver and two passengers inside.  The truck stalled out halfway across the river resulting in a water rescue conducted by the St. Clair Fire Department.  All occupants were rescued safely.  The driver, 21-year old Devin Gauer of Union was arrested for two active warrants.  Charges are also being sought against him for operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license, resisting arrest by flight creating a substantial risk of injury, and failure to display lit tail lights.  One of the passengers, 53-year old Henry Phillips of St. Clair was arrested for an active Franklin County Municipal warrant.  The second passenger, a 23-year old St. Clair woman, was released without charges.
