St. Louis Man Arrested Following Chase in Sullivan

A St. Louis man is facing multiple charges following a dangerous police chase in Sullivan.  The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when a Franklin County Deputy responded to the parking lot of Pawn Mart in Sullivan for a report of a suspicious person.  The deputy spoke with the suspect, 26-year old Richard Cliver of St. Louis.  Cliver appeared to be under the influence of drugs.  He admitted to using a bad batch of meth.  When the deputy asked Cliver to step out of his jeep he closed the window and started the vehicle.  As other deputies converged on the scene Cliver accelerated over a curb and onto the North Service Road towards Sullivan.  Cliver’s driving was erratic during the chase.  With the pursuit heading towards a populated area the deputies chose to force Cliver’s vehicle off the road as quickly as possible.  They were able to force him off the road between Interstate 44 and the North Service Road at Williams Lane.  Cliver was arrested and has since been charged with felony resisting arrest, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.  A DWI charge is also pending lab results.  Bond for Cliver has been set at $15,000.
