Growing Number of Schools to Close Eclipse

As the solar eclipse draws closer, a growing number of schools and districts are deciding to cancel classes on August 21.  School officials cite traffic and safety concerns, as well as bus routes, as primary factors in their decision.  The following schools have decided NOT to have classes on August 21:

Immaculate Conception in Union

Lonedell R-XIV

Meramec Valley R-III (Pacific)

St. Clair R-XIII

St. Clare Catholic School

St. Gertrude's

Sullivan

Union R-XI

Washington School District

These schools plan to include the eclipse in their curriculum the week leading up to the event.  They also plan to send students home with certified solar eclipse glasses as well as instructions on how to use them.

Officials at Franklin County R-II, Gasconade County R-1 (Herman), New Haven School District, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Francis Borgia Grade School and St. Francis Borgia Regional High School still plan to hold classes on that day, although all officials contacted stress that the decision could be subject to change.
