Jayla Everett scored 30 points leading the Kirkwood Pioneers to a 65-51 win over the Washington Blue Jays in the girls class 5 sectional at St. Charles West High School. UCLA bound Lauryn Miller added 14 and Natalie Bruns chipped in 12 for the Pioneers who advance to the quarterfinal with a 25-3 record. Jackie Arnold led Washington with 18 points followed by Reese Arnold with 13. The Lady Jays finish the season with a record of 25-4. Kyra Hardesty posted five points and concluded her high school career with 1,896 points, second all time to Lisa Sandbothe in the history of girls basketball at Washington High.
Washington outrebounded Kirkwood on the offensive boards 15-4, but shot just 21 percent from the floor. The Lady Jays shot 80 percent from the line and committed six turnovers. The Pioneers shot 51 percent from the floor, 56 percent from the line and committed just four turnovers.
