Keven Benton-St. Clair Wrestling

The KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week is Senior Wrestler Keven Benton from St. Clair High School.

138 Pounds-Co-Captain

Kevin had dealt with injury issues much of the season, but fought through them to return to the varsity lineup a few weeks before the district meet.

Keven advanced to the consolation semi-finals but came up just short on the scoreboard. That score was the only place he was defeated.

His attitude and fight to help his team win were on display all weekend, especially in his two dominating wins by pin over Affton and Kennett and later in the way he kept his head high and supported this teammates until the end of the tournament.

It is the end of just one chapter of Keven's life and Coach Mel Hughes is excited that he plans to continue wrestling on the collegiate level next year.

Coach Hughes says Keven was selected co-captain for many reasons, not the least of which was his willingness to fight through injury to make the district starting lineup.

Coach Hughes looks for Keven to be a success in college and throughout his life.

Although he didn't qualify for state, Kevin was instrumental in helping St. Clair win it's first district title in wrestling in school history.
