NTSB Releases Preliminary Report Of Deadly Amtrak Derailment The National Transportation Safety Board is releasing its preliminary report on the deadly Amtrak train derailment last month near Mendon, Missouri. The NTSB says a train carrying 270 passengers and 12 crew members derailed after colliding with a dump truck at a highway railroad grade crossing. Three train passengers and the truck driver died and the incident resulted in around four-million-dollars worth of damage. All locomotives and railcars derailed with seven of the railcars coming to a rest on their sides.
